My former high school principal wants to sell her fourth generation dairy farm* to a Dallas developer to build a 900-unit subdivision. This was the big news item while I was home visiting Hendersonville, N.C. Unfortunately for Mrs. Corn and her family, county commissioners are no more immune to NIMBY outrage in Henderson County than they are in San Francisco or Herriman, Utah, for that matter. On a vote of 2-2, they killed the developer’s proposal, dealing another blow to affordable housing in a region that is experiencing severe growing pains.
